We are constantly asked why our hearing aids are so low priced. I think the right question is, “why other people’s hearing aids are so highly priced?” The reports in the public domain say that usually half of the cost to the client is service costs, but then why do you pay more service costs for the higher priced hearing aids – wouldn’t you expect to pay less service costs with a device that should work better?
We regularly have customers who tell us they have been quoted eight or ten thousand dollars for hearing aids. One lady said she had been quoted twelve thousand dollars for a pair of hearing aids. I found that a bit hard to believe actually, but she was adamant. Perhaps they were in a designer case. Anyway, we have shown that you don’t need to charge those figures if you get your delivery model, service model and technology right. Moving away from compression and prescriptions has been key to this, and empowering people at a time when patient empowerment is so popular is the right thing to do. Who knows best if a hearing aid sounds comfortable?
I advise people to do their research and be discerning in who they buy hearing aids from. Whether the retailer is on the Internet or in a shop is secondary. What’s important is a good combination of science, price and service. Blamey Saunders hears has focussed on that combination. Price is good. We have a highly trained service team and we spend our money on science, not marketing. We love feedback to help us improve.
