I dedicate this entry to Mr Richard Peter Freeman, who sadly passed away this week. Peter, as he was known to his colleagues, was one of the most respected Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists in Australia. He was one of the most inspiring and visionary professionals that I have met, and was an inspiration and mentor to many of those around him.
Long after he retired from clinical practice, he contributed to the strategic management of research funds, through the Garnet Passe Foundation, where he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Foundation, in recognition of his tireless and devoted work, over many years, to the establishment of the Foundation and its development. This work has ensured an ongoing legacy from his work. I count it as a privilege to have worked alongside him at an early stage of my career at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, and express my sympathy to his family and friends.
