Today Blamey Saunders hears supported the East Melbourne Community Picnic day, and the sun shone. We were there because my team and I believe it’s important to serve our community, and also to share information about hearing. I don’t think I started our day well, as we were right next to the toddlers Zumba class, and it was LOUD. I played “killjoy” and asked them to turn it down because it was unpleasantly loud (of course I measured the sound levels, and my ears had not deceived me), and the Zumba team immediately responded. Thanks guys. But then I got to wondering about other kiddie classes, and wondered how common it was for kiddie dance classes to have music above safe levels. So, today my message is about not hurting your hearing – or your children’s. Children’s ears are vulnerable, and if you cause them to damage their hearing, they won’t get it back. If you go speedboat racing, or any other motor sport, or if you are listening to the local jazz band, make sure your children have hearing protection. I hope not to have them as my hearing aid customers.
