Hearing aid fitting

I have just been reading an article in an audiology magazine where the author quotes a colleague, saying, “You (the audiologist) see facts, not people, and pay too much attention to the thresholds of hearing sensitivity and not enough to the uncomfortable listening levels”.  This was written by an author I admire (Robert .L. Martin) and whom I admire more for writing this.  The article goes on to discuss hearing aid gain and output.  I just wonder why we make this so complicated.  There is much in fundamental hearing literature to indicate that a hearing aid must be audible and comfortable for the listener.  If the right technology is used, then this can be achieved for every individual listener.  Check our website for more on this topic; Blamey & Saunders Hearing
