Better Hearing Australia celebrated their 80th anniversary on Friday with a splendid lunch. They are wonderful people and have been meeting otherwise unmet needs in hearing rehabilitation for a long time. I am impressed that they started out as an organisation that met practical needs when hearing aids were unsophisticated, and cochlear implants not nearly invented. As technology has improved they have moved with it, whilst not losing their core skills. There is still a place for teaching lipreading, so they still do. They help find hearing aids for people with no access, like refugees. They have some amazing staff who work on low salaries, to make the modest budget stretch. If you use hearing aids, and are reading this, think about donating your old hearing aids to them.
If you work in any profession where you interact with people, look at the Better Hearing website to see how their services can help you be more aware of how to communicate better, so that people with hearing loss have an easier time.
